Alright I just got my kit. Reading the install instructions it says that a Heavy Duty Timing Chain Set is mandatory for engine operation above 5500 rpm. I don't think I'll be above that. What is the stock fuel cut off/rev limit on an LT1?

The stock rev limit is ~ 5,700.

BTW, I already have a CSI water pump in the mail now.

So if you decide to do the conversion, the LT4 HD would be your only option.

NO, NO, NO....

To run a double roller in the 93s and 94s you must do the opti converstion.
Same goes with the LT4 and ED chain sets.

None of these sets have a cam gear that's keyed for the shaft that drives the non-vented opti. (Well, I imagine you could find a machine shop to modify the cam gear to possiblly work, but I'm sure it would cost more than doing the vented opti conversion.)

Unless you're willing to do the vented opti conversion on the 93s and 94's, the only options are the stock replacement set and the Lunati set. And the Jury is still out on whether the Lunati set is any better (or actually worse) than the stock set...

I say[again ]:
To use a LT4HD [or a Cloyes etc double roller]

You have to change cam, opti, timing cover, and opti harness to 95 style..
Also add vacuum lines for opti..

[This is so whether you use a electric water pump or NOT]

The reason for this is that the early opti's drive with a splined hole in the cam gear... and noone MAKES an aftermarket that drives opti that way..[except Lunati see below]
You cannot run a Cloyes double roller with a 94 opti...period...
There IS a Lunati set that will work with a 93-4 opti, but it has had very bad 'reviews' I wouldn't use one..

BTW, the Lunati set is not a roller set - it's a linked belt, similar to the stock GM set.

I agree, I wouldnt try it either...

thanks.
No, it won't work. Bad suggestion. The Cloyes set will not turn your splined opti. If you intend to use the non-vented opti, you are stuck with a stock type cam gear.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I've decided that if the chain set looks good then I'm going to leave it, but if not then I'll get a new stock set.
