Changed opti, ran 3 times & now no start

I changed the opti in my firebird and when i started it for the first time it ran ruff for a couple of min. then it cleared up and ran fine. Then when i when't to start it up a 2ed time it fired off and ran good. So i let it sit over night and changed the oil the next day, after i changed the oil i fired it off and let it warn up, then i shut it off. That night i when't to pull it out of the garage and it would not start and acted like it did before i changed the opti, it just turns over and does not fire or only wants to fire once and a great while. I took the icm off of my sisters blazer and it did the same thing so i took the coil off of the blazer and the car still won't run. I'm at a loss to what could be wrong. The opti is a oem gm unit.

What was the problem that led you to change the Opti?

A few people have had problems with the rotor falling off brand new OEM Optis. Did you check the screws before you installed it?

Did you check the harness connector for corrosion? How about the ends of the plug and coil wires?

Can you scan it for codes?

The car ran ruff and when i pulled it in the garage. Then i noticed that i was not all the way in the garage i went to start it up and it did not want to start. My check engine light has been on for some time cause when i put the long tubes on it, it through a egr code. So i allways thought that was only code in it. But when it would not start up i ran the codes and got P1371,P1441,P0300. This was before i changed the opti. The screws on the new opti was nice and tight. All of the connections to the opti and plug wires and coil looks brand new. The car ran long enuff and did not light up the CEL.

Well tomorrow i'm going to take the opti back off and see if the rotor came off like Injuneer said. And while i was searching i seen that some times the coolant senser in the water pump won't let it start either. So i'll change that before i rip it back apart again.

Look at your Opti connector closely, these are known to go bad

New opti only lasted overnight?

I put a new opti on my firebird and started it up 3 times and it ran fine. But now it will not start see link http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=500256 so i got a new coil and icm and still no start. Today i took off the cap on the opti to see if the rotor came lose and it was on there good and tight. All connections look brand new to the opti and plug wires. I called summit up to see if they would take the opti back and they said they would. My question is could the opti go out that quik or could it be something else?

oem GM. I'm guessing it's the opti thats bad? But when it was running with the new opti it had a really good throttle responce and snappy.

Man I'm sorry to here that, I know it's a pain in the a$$ to do all that work and then have to think about doing it again. If you read all the post on here I read alot of people get bad unit's , I read that one guy got 5 that were bad. I cant believe GM hasn't fix the problem. I'll keep in touch and let you know how mine goes. Did you do this on your 96 ?
