New Oil Pump

OK, so it started as a clutch replacement then progressed to a rear main seal and oil pan gasket replacement.

The pan is off, thinking I should replace the oil pump with a 10554 melling.
Engine has 80k

Best method to prime the pump without pulling the intake?

Pull the intake.

No seriously, that is the BEST method. Many people have no problems disconnecting the injectors and letting the starter spin the shaft, but during that time you have zero oil pressure. Call me a worry-wart, but why take the chance?

I would also venture to say that replacing the oil pump would be a waste of money, since they hardly EVER go bad by themselves because they are the most lubricated part of any engine. I honestly wouldn't mess with it.

Re: New Oil Pump

The stock oilpump is probably the most reliable you will find. I might consider some casting cleanup or a higher pressure spring but not replacement.
