New Oil Pan gasket?

Im pretty sure im gettin a little leak from my Oil Pan gasket, but am not totally sure. I tried out of synthetic oil a few changes ago, and then devolped a leak. So now I think that the gunk that had built up to keep a leak from developing, is gone. How hard is it and is it worth it to replace the oil pan gasket? It doesnt drip much, only a few small drips every few days, not enough to even make me add oil ever between changes. Also, if I did it, it would be when I was doing headers, so I wouldnt have to worry about the exhaust system being in the way.

Re: New Oil Pan gasket?

ok, so i am not sober right now, so excuse my typing. but basically to do a oil pan gasket install isnt too hard. when i did mine i didn't drop the oil pan off of the car. instead i removed all of the oil pan bolts and it dropped a few inches. after removing the old gasket i cleaned the oil pan surfaces and the bottom of the block as best i could. then i slid the new gasket around the oil pan and was able to manipulate it enough to get it into place and then bolt the pan back into place. i would recommend that you use some rtv sealant around the back of the oil pan and where the timing chain cover ties into it. hope this helps....
