LOL I wonder if they're any different from each other...

IMO the price is right for the MSD cap & rotor. I'm guessing that they actually built it to be more durable than OEM, since they probably expect a lot of MSD boxes to be sending more current through them as well.

A DIS conversion is still the way to go if you've got deep pockets, though.

This is from the Autozone website

DISTRIBUTOR CAP for a
1994 CHEVROLET CAMARO

Item Part
No.
Warranty Core Value Unit
Price Availability
Store Web
WELLS 2 PIECE KIT DR2032 $229.99

This is the link to the CSK site for cap and rotor kits for a 94 LT1 http://www.partsamerica.com/SelectPa...ectParts%2Easp
(It says Sorensen $224.88 Borg Warner $279.99 Niehoff $236.99)
They also list a Mallory for $35.48 but it's not the right part.

You must have been looking at the wrong part, maybe the distributor itself. I know that Autozone and Advance don't mention that the cap and rotor doesn't come with their ~$150 refurbished "distributor", they sell the cap and rotor separate for ~$220. I didn't dig into it but I wouldn't be surprised if other places do the same thing.

EDIT: By the way, it's a freikin joke that they charge that much for the cap and rotor...at least to those of us who know that you can get a new entire opti for ~$230 vented and ~$310 non-vented. Maybe if someone didn't know any place to get one except the dealer those might look like good prices since the opti from a typical dealer is like $590.
I wonder why/how MSD is only charging $150 for their cap and rotor.

95+ get a cheaper price (131.99) for the cap & rotor kit from Autozone- reason being the vented vs. non-vented issue.

The AC-Delco vented cap and rotor GM PART # 10457293 is only ~$115 from Jason or Dal.

Lightbulb Re: new MSD opti cap and coil any good?

I wonder if I could put the vented cap and rotor on my 94 and just plug the holes. That would save $100 (at least on the other brands, MSD has the same price listed for vented and un-vented...but I don't feel like waiting till the middle of March or later to get theirs, while my car rides like a pig in the meantime.) The big difference is in the spline driving the un-vented, as opposed to the camshaft pin driving the vented. I would bet that the vented cap and rotor would work just fine with a un-vented back half.

Awesome Yea, I want to figure this out ASAP. Trying to decide what to do with my opti has been going on for like two weeks.
But since I now know the two pieces WILL fit together I think it is finally settled.
