New motor smoking
New motor smoking
Anyone have any ideas????
My new motor (1000 miles) has a slight blue smoke at idle. However, under accelleration, the blue cloud covers the entire road. I thought that maybe the rings havent seated, but at 1000 miles, can that be??? My initial thought was that maybe the rings were bad, or that I had a bad valve seal... I dont know, but it is driving me crazy. The motor was completely rebuilt, block machined and heads diassembled/reassembled. Does anyone have any other suggestions that I can take before I pull the whole thing back out an check over everything. What a PITA.
Thanks
john

did u do the rebuild yourself?....
when the rings are put into the piston the ring gaps are supposed to be atleast 90 degress apart..this is because the rings will move around piston a small amount, and if then ring gaps are close to each other, youll get severe blowby..which is what i suspect is happening...
if your car had dual exhaust with no crossover you could narrow it down to what bank and go from there. but sinice im assuming u dont it could be 1 or all 8 for that matter that has the issue..
what i would do is pull the injector for each cylinder one by one...(you could also pull the plug wire so if theres any oil in that cylinder it wont fire and confuse you)..point is youll find out what cylinder is buring oil by taking away fuel (so it doesnt load up the cylinder) and spark...oil burning goes away then theres your cylinder...this probly wont work however, if there are more then 1 cylinders buring oil (wouldnt matter if there was a dual exhaust)
