Whats it take to swap to a vented Opti
Whats it take to swap to a vented Opti
The opti on my car is fine, but i am doing some work to the car here real soon and was wondering if ill really beninfit from a vented opti setup? Im getting a new cam n timing set and all thatfun stuff.. so i figure it wouldnt really be too hard to do a vented swap.
From what i know you need this
a 95+ cam (longer dowl pin)
a 95+ timing cover
a 95+ Opti spark
and thats it?!?
Would it really be worth anything to do this or am i better off leaving the non vented type opti on my car!
TIA -Mike

Here's a link to the conversion parts needed. You'll also need a longer dowel pin. If you've already got an aftermarket cam, then it may already be machined for the larger hole in the face, that the vented opti requires for it's drive. For those with the stock cams, they either have to have the stock cam machined or get another cam

Do you need to do this - probably not. If your non-vented opti is working OK and the milage not extreme - there's really no point in changing it - you're not going to see any performance increases. The only reason I went to vented, was so I could run an electric WP and Double roller setup.
BTW, You can use a vented cap on a non-vented opti - just swap over the old plastic piece that has the plug housing built in, and re-use it. If you dont want to reuse the old platic piece, you can get the new plug harness listed on the above link.
