New motor Running HOT, need help with diagnosis
Car: 1997 Pontiac Firebird WS6, 6 speed
Motor: Stock rebuilt short block, everything on the motor is stock, except when I had the heads resurfaced I had them slightly milled.
Issue: I just rebuilt the motor and started her up about 5 days ago. I have been driving her for about two days and noticed that the temp gauge is reading a little warm. When at idle it runs a tick above 210, when driving down the highway or interstate it goes up to 240 (or the ¾ mark). When I return back to city driving it goes back down to 210 or just above it.
So far the car has not over heated, never started to boil over or anything like that, but it still is running way to warm for my liking.
My fans at idle (210 or just above) are not running, neither of them are. So I am curious if one of them should be on, but I am unsure. But if I drive down the highway and get the gauge up to 240 (3/4 mark) both fans turn on.
I replaced the stat and purged the system but no avail I still have the same symptoms. I fear a blown head gasket, but the car had never over heated but just runs hot. The oil is not showing signs of mixing with the antifreeze. And I am unsure of what I need to do further to check for a blown head gasket.
If anybody can give me some hints as what I should do next it would be great!

Check for obstructions/debris in front of the a/c condensor or radiator
have you replaced the radiator cap recently? make sure you have the 18 psi one, other then that any other obvious leaks that may be able to be found..
