NEW loudmouth question (be gentle)

Hello all,

I just ran the massive SLP loudmouth search, and read plenty on the catback system, but couldn't find one quesiton/answer I was looking for.

Does the loudmouth's "resonator muffler" actualy produce more power than a "regular", chambered style muffler? I see the claims on SLP's website, but will this produce any noticable gain on a stock/basic bolt-on Lt1? Will it provide any kind of noticable gains in the future, where more exhaust flow could be needed?

Thanks, and please direct me to the thread if it has been discussed before, like I said, I couldn't find it...

-Thor K.

(ps- comparing to Hooker catback, for reference)

When installing my loudmouth, I looked into the "resonator Muffler." It has no blockage. It is completly flow through.

Re: NEW loudmouth question (be gentle)

it's tough to compare the loudmouth resonator to a standard catback muffler.

the power of the LM comes from it basically being a 3" straight pipe...NO restriction

and like 93turbo said...the difference between the LM and the worst flowing catback (argued to be the flowmaster) is 5hp or so. not really a noticable amount.

a catback...of any kind...is a good mod to any car...no matter how much hp. the LM will probably flow better after extensive mods than some of the lesser flowing systems, but at that level you may not be able to stand the noise!

currently i have a home-built LM-like setup on my LS1. i put a single dynomax 18" bullet on the end of the Ypipe (long tubes and no cats) and then ran 3" tubing back over the axle, then installed another 18" bullet in the standard muffler location. then a hidden turndown to cap it off.

SOUNDS BAD *** and flows really well. and i like the "no tips" thing. i even painted the rear bullet and turndown black to match the underside of the car.

Great, thanks for all the info guys. It's just one of those things I wanted cleared up

Again, it's much appreciated.

(teke184- sounds nice man, good ideas coming to my mind... hehe)

what you have to remember is that in an exhaust system, the waves are pulsed, except for turbo cars. they are blended.

Hmm, at risk of sounding like a complete fool... what exactly do you mean by pulsed or blended?

Obviously, I can visualize this, but what is the relevance of the waves being pulsed, or blended with turbo?

Re: NEW loudmouth question (be gentle)

My car came with a Flowmaster, I through a LM Catback on that bizatch and the difference I thought was noticable. At first I thought I lost power because of the volume change...

Before anyone comments on how stupid that sounds, let me explain. The flowmaster was so damn quiet compared to this. So when I tapped the gas on the LM, it sounded like half throttle on the Flowmaster, hence feeling like I lose power somehow. But once I jumped on it the tires let loose a lot easier now and you can sorta feel it pull a little harder.

because, blended exhaust and chambered mufflers dont get along, but everything should work fine on a pulsed exhaust. and with everybody talking about flow on mufflers, flow #s on mufflers dont mean a lot because of the pulsed exhaust.

Gotchya... bottom line then is that nearly any catback system is a good upgrade over the stock exhaust? Isn't the stock catback exhaust stainless?

Thanks again for the answers!
