New Jegs oil pump with pictures

After getting extremely discouraged trying to find an oil pump that WASN'T based off the M55 Melling, I thought I'd try the new Jegs pump. The mounting area certainly looks more stout than the new M55 casting. The pump comes with 3 pressure springs, which can be interchanged via a bolt in the housing.

That is for sure a melling pump. It says 55 right on the side. Those picture are of the older style pump. Just make sure it looks like the pump in them pictures. Unfortunatly I doubt it will. Melling sells the stronger pump under the "Mellings Select" brand name for 65 bucks. I doubt that the jegs pump is the stronger one since they are selling it at half the price. Both the stronger and weaker pumps have the 55 stamped on the side of them I believe.

The 4 pictures are the one's I took. These are pictures of the pump I received, from Jegs, today.

Anyone have pictures of the weaker Melling pumps to show what the differences are?
Hate to order a Jegs pump and they start sending the weaker pumps since they would cost less to make.

When I was talking to him he said that Milodon was using the same M55 housing an this was the problem area...

*** EDIT ***

Scratch that it was the GM pump he was telling me about not the Milodon...

The Milodon is a different casting. Look at their web site.

It doesn't seem like anything is a no brainer decision when buying any part.
Some sites list a different pump for LT1/LS1 while the Milodon site does not. Is a SBC pump the same for LT1s?
And can the Milodon pump be re-springed for a little higher pressure but not necessarily higher volume sine I'll be running a stock pan?

Oil pumps for SBC's (they also fit Chevy V-6's) are interchangable.

Found this picture...definitely a big difference
http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a26...55tom10553.jpg

I bet the Jegs one you ordered Frank may have been before the "Jegs" brand had sold all their old stock...my luck is I would order it and get the new style now..

But I think I have it all sorted out now...pre-95 SBC pumps will have a 5/8" p/u tube, while the 95+ will have a 3/4".
I think for a stock replacement pump, the Melling Select 10554 is the part I want, it has the stronger casting. Then get a GM stock 3/4" pickup tube/screen. ANd then for slightly more pressure get the GM white spring #3848911.
I can also get a Melling driveshaft with a steel couple instead of plastic, #IS-55E.

All that sound right?

This is the one I purchased and used in my 60k stock lower end lt1
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

It is the older style thick casting plus its cast from ductile iron.
My pressure never goes lower than 20 psi idleing in hot traffic and instantly hits 60 psi as soon as you touch the throttle.

How did this pump end up working? I'm in need of one for my new shortblock.
Thanks,
Kory
