New here...stupid oil pressure related question...
ok first off, hello everyone!...ive never posted on this board before(except once in the parts for sale area)...im usually over at fbody.com..
ok my car has recently had alot of work done to it (mainly by myself) and i finally have it running pretty good.. ive done plugs, wires, opti, waterpump, pcv, catalyctic converter, both temp sensors, coil, icm, i havent replaced my o2 sensors yet, so i think that is why i am having my SES light come on...
my oil pressure on the other hand, is my biggest concern at the moment, it is getting real low on me and it drops to just a hair above the redline when im idleing in park, or say at a drive through in drive, with my foot on the brake. when im cruising in the mornings it usually shows at just below the first white line up above the redline..sometime it goes right in the middle of the two when the car is warm. my engine itself sounds fine...no knocking or ticking or anything like that,
in fact it WAS ticking a bit but just today i found and repaired 3 small exhaust leaks..NO MORE TICK!
i also use that high mileage engine oil, i have been using 10w40 oil for a while and a Fram oil filter.
..and even worse is this is my daily driver, and i use my car for work so NOT driving it is not much of an option.
anyways, sorry for the long post...think this could be a sending unit problem? i thought when they went out they didnt read at all and the gauge wouldnt show anything...
oh and the car has 120000k on it
BTW, here is my car: http://members.cardomain.com/mike94z28

No, its not a sending unit problem. Old bearings... might be time to take of the oil pan and replace the rods/mains. Takes a day to do, but sure is good for a motor on tired bearings with low pressure. Also consider upping the weight of the oil you use. Mobil makes a 15w50 synthetic that works great
ive been told its very difficult to do the bottom end work with the engine in the car.... besides, if i have to go as far as that, i might just buy a complete bottom end and do the heads/cam thing...
ok, if i were to get a oil pressure gauge, where do i hook it up to and how do i test it? ive never used a guage for oil/fuel pressure, so its new to me...
also how would i know if my oil pump was bad?
ya got any links on the rod/main replacement procedure?

You can tap into where the existing pressure sensor is with a "tee" fitting or if your sensor is not on the side of the block, you can use a port here.
Also, the Fram filters don't have a good reputation. Use an AC, Wix or something else (anything but a Fram).
Don't even try to do bearing replacement with the engine in the car, IMO. You can't replace the cam bearings with the engine in the car anyway, so you might as well pull it.
