New guy from NY.

Thanks for the add. I bought my first lt1 and t56 out of a 96 trans am but the engine isn't original to the car. It came out of a Corvette but I'm not sure which year. I also have the engine harness from the Pontiac and would like to use it instead of buying a new standalone harness.

Ther should be a derivative of the original vehicle VIN stamped on the block, driver side, behind the oil filter. Look for the letter that indicates the year:

Do you have the PCM out of the Trans Am? What vehicle are you installing this in?

I Got the ECU and harness with three plugs pulled thru the firewall. I'm putting it into a 91s10

If the engine ran OK with the PCM and harness, the only issue you should have is interfacing it to your vehicle's body harness, where required. Is there a part # on the PCM (ECU)? That might tell us if it the Corvette unit or an F-Body PCM.

Here's a photo of a 1995 F-Body harness. 96 would have additional wires for the after-cat O2 sensors, EVAP vacuum switch, and crankshaft position sensor. None of that is required for the engine to run correctly.

The three “firewall” connectors sounds like a match. Here is a table with the harness connector pinouts, from Shoebox:

Re: New guy from NY.

If you’re basing that on the PCM part #, the 94 and 95 used the same part # 16188051. That's an OBD-1 PCM.

Re: New guy from NY.

Where was that code located? I’m not that familiar with the Corvette nomenclature. Just assumed the engine markings would be similar.
