Talking New guy has some questions

Hi guys, new to the board, so far it seems realy cool, anyways, i have a question, i got my 95 trans am a couple months back, totaly stock, couple days ago i began doing small modifactions, so far i got CAGS disabled, fan switch, TBS bypass, and ported my MAF, tomorow i plan on making that free cold air intake that helps give the stock intake cold air from picking it up from the bottom, ok well was just wondering if there were any other modifications like this that you guys would suggest, dont have alot of money right now, about 100 bucks i can spend on the car. thanks in advance.

I think you have done the good free/cheap mods. If the car hasn't had a plug change recently and has a lot of miles, that would be next on my list. It's a bitch to do, but cheap. The OEM platinum plugs don't last 100,000 miles, no matter what they say.

Enjoy your car and welcome to the board!

Well if you have the stock exhaust you could buy a cutout which is real cheap, also a 160 thermostat would also help a small amount and is also cheap.

I know it isn't that cheap, but it should be one of the next mods on your list. You need to get a cat back system. One of the cheaper ones is the hooker, that is the one that I have on my car, and I think it runs around $275. It might be something for you to save for.

Talking plugs sound good

the plug idea sounds good, i was thinking about it for a while now but heard alot of horror stories about instalation, is it realy that bad?? are there any places that have the best method of going at it? also i was thinking about getting thr NGKs, heard alot about those, what do you guys think? also for the plug wires, what do you guys use ? MSDs or something? as for the cutouts, i dont think i can do those because i live in california and we have strict emission laws, do you know if its illegal to do somehting like that down here?

I DEFINETLY agree with saving for a catback sooner or later.
You'll need one sooner if you still keep on modding or plam to get more serious in the future...

A tuneup would be a nice insurrance mod. I went with AC delco platinums and MSD wires, but that will run ya about $110 total.

you can make your self a cold air intake out of some 3inch alumnium pipe and a K&N cone filter. I used an polished intake pipe from honda civic that i got from auto zone, and a small breather filter to attach to the air pump hose. that set up will run ya about $80.

If you are going to do that. Just go ahead and get a K&N FIPK. Fancy name for K&N cold air intake. I got mine for 180 shipped to my door. 80 for a ghetto put together one or 180 for a really nice K&N one....................your choice. But if you want an exaust i would highly suggest a cutout. About 40 bucks from summit, 30 bucks or so for the install. Your talking 70 bucks for 10 RWHP, thats a good deal. Will not mess with your emissions what so ever as long as you put it AFTER the cat on the I-pipe. Thats what i did and i have no problems. I got the NGK-55's and love them. This of course is just my opinion but beware, before you start modding know this. Its an addiction that will SUCK the money straight out of your wallet. J/k have fun and congrats on the car. If you have any problems just post it here and you will most likely find the answer.

I have not heard any negatives really about SLP but IMO you cant beat the quality of the K&N FIPK. It gives you a really good gain in HP for the money.

Thumbs up

what ive heard about the SLP is that it warms up faster or something coz its metal versus the K&N that is plastic, but i have no idea if this would realy make a diffrence, but if recomend K&N then K&N it is !!!

If pricec isn't a difference, they both net virtually the same gains, go with the one you think is a cooler setup. I personally think the SLP one looks cooler, if I had seen it originally I wouldn't have the K&N on my car.

Well i usually keep my K&N Armoraled so it looks real nice. It would make sense that the metal would heat up faster and that definately would have some performance issues. I have a LT1 scanmaster and it tells me the temp of the air in my intake and it is always nice and cool. Just my opinion. If you are going to go with something else besides K&N then go with MOROSO. Heard only good things about that one. But again i would like to say that IMO K&N is the best.
