Ryan,

Hope I didn't give the impression that all that power was going to be found in a lifter preload adjustment. My apologies if I misled.

Like I said before, it can be near impossible diagnosing someone elses stuff. That's one reason I don't wade in on these discussions too much. Plus people just don't give enough data or don't have a means of acquiring it. The problem could be one thing or another..... that or a combination.

MG,

Was more directing the question at Phil/Ai.

He made it sound like he knew what the problem(s) is(are). Just wanted to get some more info out of him .

I roll through these threads too quick at times so I miss the little details. That and I don't like being nitpicked.... so I try not to do it to others.

Good point though Ryan.

Maybe we need some clarification. These are some things that I'm not really getting...

I wont give out specs, however I will say that this is literally the same topend that was on Russ Ethridge's car which made 425rwhp SAE by 6300rpm with exhaust, pump fuel, and a moser 12 bolt. Actually Alex has another 7-11cfm across the board after some minor tweaking & freshening
I interpret "literally the same" to mean, the valvetrain equipment, cam specs etc are the same (or very close) but the heads have a little more average flow?

I've been in contact with Alex and we've laid out the exact differences between his setup & russ', and have that much figured out. It's not a long list & I'd rather not give away information, but fortunately (or unfortunately?) between restrictions, physical setup and tuning it more than adds up
The "exact differences" of the two combinations with "literally the same" topends. So I'd assume we're talking about the shortblock assembly, intake and exhaust?

It would be nice to know what the exact differences are there. Was any porting done to the manifold?

I'm more than confident that when we swap to a configuration more oriented towards a 400-430rwhp SAE car he should easily be where one would anticipate.
A big deficit to make up for sure. I wish you guys the best.

Any new news on this 526 SS 96? Inquiring minds wanna know.

edit: And does Phil actually do the porting or does an employee do the work?
This is not meant to be an offensive question. I've just been around long enough to know that you don't always get the top dawg to work on your stuff when you ain't paying top dawg prices. Some just throw the busy work to the little guys.

Funny you should mention this. Not that I'm AI's official spokesperson, nor do I necessarilly want to speak for Phil, but I asked this question before he started work on my heads, and I was assured that Phil is the only one to port/work on a set of cylinder heads that come through his shop.

I paid for the top dawg to do the work, and I expect the top dawg performed the work.

Well FYI, comp R' lifters aren't just any hydraulic lifter, go ahead don't go with what I say, but in the end that is your problem bud, & you better trust me considering I've been chasing tails & my 50RWHP that I was missing until I adjusted my lifters to zero lash, the car would just fall on its face by 6000rpm, you will read LOW MAP because valves aren't closing & your AFGS will read low, all my symptoms, I'm surprized you haven't done what I said, kinda irratates me, so far advice I've given on this board was more then appreciated until now.

Whatever, don't say I didn't tell you so.

Ohh & for those who think you can't loose so much power from just misadjusting hydraulic lifters its time to hit the books buddy! Its called bleed off rate, Comp R's are NOT FORGIVING, any more then 1/16th of a turn on a 7/16th stud & anymore then 1/8th of a turn on a 3/8th stud you are loosing power automatically, for those who say I have had good luck with 1/4 turn, time to go to 1/8th, I've done enough Comp R lifter setups & over 15 cam swaps around here & I'm very familiar with the side effects of misadjusting Comp R' lifters.

Hence if you don't need to go with Comp R's I wouldn't, I much prefer a stock style lifter but with a ton of spring pressure you don't get much choice.

Matt.

Re: New Engine, missing 70-80 RWHP any thoughts

Woah, I didn't know that this thread had a third page!!! Any way, I reset the valve adjustment, and I just got my intake a couple of days ago. I should have the new stuff installed, and dyno #'s in about a week or so. I have my vacume guages, and I will be ready to drop the Y-pipe, and do an open hedder pass to see if that gains anything (SLP 2 OTL may be too restrictive, but that's just a guess.) I really don't want to change my exhaust, because I love the sound, and it's not too loud. I want to go to New Jersey in october (GM High tech shoot out), if I can actually make a pass with my car before the snow hits I would be in heaven. Till then I guess I will have to suffer on my 04 R6 . Damn I love that thing, 42 MPG average, never breaks, can run 10's (I can't, but it can ), and it's silver ! But, I did get my self in a little trouble with it... I told my friends the car was faster, now I have to prove it.
