New Car and Horsepower question
Re: New Car and Horsepower question
Why is there such a tiny cam in that motor? Reminds me of a guy I used to know that did the 383 job and threw a hot cam in there. If felt like the car was missing serious power as it was about as quick as my Semi stock Z28 at that point. You're probably making 290-300rwhp I'm guessing. It doesn't sound like the motors set up right.

[QUOTE=Shangrila;6944222][QUOTE=Injuneer;6944084] Buddy of mine had a set of AS&M mid (modified to dump the driver's side straight back for duals) at at the 800HP level in a high boost 383,
This was for a turbo?
No... Vortech S/C 383 LT1 in a 30th SS Camaro convertible. He eventually took the engine to 1,125HP. He started building it as soon at he bought it in 1997. There were no long tubes available back then, so he modified a set of AS&M mids. He seemed to have virtually unlimited cash, and did a lot of unusual stuff. EVerything he did was thoroughly dyno tested at Second Street Speed in Perkasie PA.
In the end he was running a set of fairly rare Canfield LTx heads, with major modifications. I remember going with him to Jesel here in NJ and having a custom set of rockers made for them. A lot of the stuff he did he wouldn't even let me in on. Best part was I was able to buy all his old parts for next to nothing, including the AS&M's.
After that, he want more HP and did a 383 on a Dart Iron Eagle block, Brodix heads, a huge Vortech prototype S/C (Vortech gave him the parts in return for him providing them with operating data). Car was eventually running low 8's at close to 170 MPH in the PRO/Edelbrock Xtreme Street racing series. Then one day he called me, said he needed money for a business investment, and asked me to find a buyer. A month later it was gone.

I would of loved to see how they resolved shrouding in those canfield heads using 2.05/1.60 valves. I bet they even raised the roof on the exhaust ports. Must be nice to have money to burn.
