need tranny removal help
taking out my m6. I have everything ready to drop but I can only get the tranny to back out about an inch and then it seems to be hanging up on the throw out bearing arm. Anyone have any help??
I ran into this problem too and fought it for an hour before I figured it out. On the Lt-1 clutch assembly the throwout bearing pulls rather than pushes on the diaphram spring. This means that the bearing is on the BACKSIDE of the pressure plate, so it will not come out with the tranny. SOOOOO, you need to take a prybar and try to slide the clutch fork off of the throwout bearing. It may take a couple of tries, but you'll get it. Try to slide it straight off using the slave cylinder hole for access. Heck, a screwdriver or hose pick might work also. Best of luck, and if you have any more questions feel free to post.

He is corrrect except he left out a very important detail. T-56's use a reverse clutch like he said. So instead of a ball that the clutch fork pivits on, there is a bolt that it pushes against. Remove this screw so that you can get the clutch fork out.
There must have been something broken inside my bellhousing then, because I didn't unscrew anything. I don't even know how you could get a wrench in there to unscrew it.
When I slid my clutch fork back it positively clicked when it disengaged, and it snapped into place when it engaged with the new clutch. It's been fine for 10,000 miles. I am in no way implying that you're wrong, but I am wondering what the GM service manual says about this. Anyone want to chime in and help clear this up for me? Now I'm confused.

Ditto... no need to remove the T-bolt that the clutch pivots on. Just pull the fork straight to the side, and the spring that holds the fork on the T-bolt will allow the fork to pop loose.
You move it in a straight line, directly away from the input shaft. If you are behind the bellhousing, looking into the hole for the slave cylinder, it pulls to the left. The only thing holding the fork on the T-bolt is two small (but strong) spring fingers.
