I am planning on eventually doing this very same thing, but with le2 cam and heads, run on pump gas. Not to jack the thread but was is the advantage of a 6.000" rod length instead of 5.700"?

The funtional difference between a 6" and a 5.7" rod is minimal. But the piston is lighter with the longer rod. So, unless there is reason to go shrt rod (primarily forced induction( the 6" is a better choice. It won't make any difference in hp though.

Isn't piston side wall loading less with the longer rod too?

Yes, the significance gets debated endlessly. It would be hard to measure the difference.
