Need some gear advice and info needed.

I have the 383 you see in the sig, etc. The car was an A4 last year and I did the swap to an M6 over the winter. The thing is the car still has 3.42 gears in it. Just driving the car you can tell itll love and needs more probably even alot more gear.

So that being said which would you guys recommend, 3.73's, or 4.10's. The car is only driven on the highway maybe 30-50 miles a week at the most so that would be so much of an issue. My concern is the strength of a 4.10 over a 3.42. A 3.42 is a much thicker gear right? So does this make it stronger?

Im not going to be in the market for a 12 bolt for a little while so I do need something thats not going to snap on me. I know M6+383+10 bolt= BOOM but Im trying to find a happy meduim here...

What do you guys think?

i think id stick with the 3.73's other wise the 10 bolt wont be very happy. alot of people ive seen that had 4.10's and did a stroker or blower motor all switch back to the 3.42's or 3.73's.

You need to wait until your car goes on the dyno and see where it makes power to make a decision.

Cool

Ditto what Rich said, but keep in mind the stock gears aren't strong to begin with. I am gonna stick it out with the stock rearend until I can make a complete upgrade. I've already gone through one differential with some nittos .

As usual an excellent suggestion Rich. Sounds like a plan.

I only saw a .03 quicker in the 1/8th with the 3.73 gears. Not worth it in my opinion. BTW: I busted the rearend that night too. I am going back to 3.42 when I rebuild it.
