need some advice on painting stuff under the hood...

i'd really like to paint some of my stuff under the hood while i've got everything torn down, but don't have time for powder coating or anything along those lines before it all goes back together. can it be done with some kind of regular paint and still look good and hold up well under the heat, not peel off, etc.? i don't want to do anything if it's going to end up looking crappy. i'd appreciate any advice ya'll may have.

thanks!

Anything but exhaust parts can be painted sucessfully. Degreasing is KEY.

Duplicolor etc parts store engine spray paints are cheap and really easy, and last OK but are not that tough, and eventually allow rust except maybe on a sunny day only ride. If you really want your work to last, use POR15 or another high quality product from an auto restoration specialty supply or paint shop.

I really like the POR 15 products, especially for steel parts that could rust. (just google it) Looks great and super durable, but it's usually brushed on and requires careful masking & multiple coats, so it's a lot more time consuming than rattle can painting. Considering the work involved and the 'once in a great while' opportunity of having your car torn apart, it's very worthwhile.

You will probably find good advice in the appearance forum, too.

If you're wanting to just paint the engine block and intake, just use some duplicolor high temp paint. I've painted my intakes before and they look great. As the other guy said degreasing is the key.
