Need to quiet this baby down...
Need to quiet this baby down...
Hey,
My previous exhaust setup was Jet Hot LTs into a custom y-pipe, and basically a magnaflow catback. (custom bent, but same muffler, plus 3" pipe over the axle)
Just put in everything in the sig, and holy ***** it got very loud. The cops in my town thought my old setup was too loud, what can I do to quiet this one down?
All that I can think of is one of those 'cones' that you can have welded inside the pipe. It would be behind the cutout, so the loss in flow really isnt a big deal. I just want a near stock idle volume. (read not hurting your ears at idle)

Re: Need to quiet this baby down...
your running an exhaust cut out? and your worried about being too loud? geez man.... not much to be said about beefing a motor up and still wanting it to sound like a stock honda..... you wanted the power, now deal with what comes with it... but i agree borla is the way to go... its a much cleaner sound than a flowmaster or any other aftermarket muffler..... here is a consideration... how about a muffler from a bone stock 2002 SS? just ponder this... everyone seems to think the muffler makes for so much more horsepower....... not really.... all the muffler does is quiet your car.... the exhaust system can make a difference, but i would suggest maybe running a stock muffler for a Hi perf. car like a newer SS.... the tone should dissipate... but you wont lose much HP... JMHO

I think you misunderstood my plan...
I want a (relatively) quiet car when the cutout is closed. With the cutout open, I don't care how loud it is, being that is the point of a cutout.

for some reason, my car is loud as HELL! i dont know why, but it doesnt sound like a normal Z... sounds like my old car did when it was running straight cats... but i have all my cats in tact and the muffler is in place as well..... anything i can look for to tell me if i either have some special muffler meant to make my car sound like a dragon on PMS? or maybe someone could tell me if something this guy did to his car before i got it (aside from headers) could be making it this loud?
Re: Need to quiet this baby down...
Question: I have the Magnaflow catback as well with stock cat. If you put this borla XR-1 in place of the stock cat would it make it flow better and reduce the sound a little or can the borla be placed after the cat. I wouldn't mind replacing the cat with borla but I don't want it to be any louder. Does anybody have the part number of the muffler required?
