Re: Need opinions on exhaust

I really like the SLP Loudmouth. It does tend to pop and crackle with headres due to the resonator style muffler. I have heard an SLP loudmouth that the owner replaced the resonator with a magnaflow Magnapack, and WOW. It sounded great, was loud(but not as loud as a true LM) and it did not pop or crackle, also it didn't sound like an old beat up farm truck with glasspacks or no mufflers. As with the flow rate on ALL of the crossflowing stlye mufflers, they will all flow around the same, some might outflow other by 2 to 3 HP, but who is going to be able to feel any of that on the street. And all of that is peak anyway and on the streets, torque is what gets you the win, unless you race people on the highway at 150+ MPH.

Considering that the GMMG DOES NOT have a muffler, I bet it flow pretty well. I never said it flowed better than Borla. Actually I was goign to get a Borla but got the GMMG cheaper. They are both in the top of their class.

A regular cutout mounted behind the Y vs a Hooker catback is about a 3-4 hp difference on a stock car. With an open plate Borla, the difference would decrease because of the extra bends in a catback, mandrel bent or press bent. What you get with the Borla is sound adjustment and stainless steel.

Jason

and a hole in your wallet

i know people have their own money but i hate seeing folks spend upwards of $500 on a catback
if you want a Borla, buy a cutout and buy some Borla tips. (close too it for a fraction of the $)

$350 for a new one is ridiculous IMO

Re: Need opinions on exhaust

Im interested in getting the loudmouth system, but I think I want the loudmouth I, the one with the resonator instead of the muffler. Does anybody have a part number for this item, and where is the cheapest to get it. Thanks

I put the Dynomax 304 stainless F-body muffler on my Camaro last weekend and I think it sounds really nice. Am I the only one?

I personally don't like the sound of a Borla. A friend of mine had one on his otherwise stock 94 with the cat, and it did sound nice, but didn't sound right for a muscle car. Sounded too much like a truck. When I first heard it, I would have thought it was a Z71 going just by sound.

I got my GMMG on a group purchase with the Oval Tips for 600 I believe. If you get them straight from GMMG they are 700 with plain slash cut tips and 850 with the oval tips. Look on ls1tech.com, they have a GP for the GMMG every now and then.

That is a great sounding system. Kinda reminds me of my SLP "2 on the left". That is my all time favorite sound.

Re: Need opinions on exhaust

Although I have a flowmaster, once I gutted the cat the sound was night and day. The car sounded much more aggressive and was louder. If thats what you are after I'd hollow those suckers out...

As for needing a reprogram there is no need if its an OBD-I car.
