Need new optispark cable wire for 95 Z28
Re: Need new optispark cable wire for 95 Z28
A google search for optispark harness turned up a multitude of places and prices. Take your pick. Make sure you get the right one with the long connector at the opti, if yours is vented.

Hi Injuneer,
Thanks for your quick reply.
How do I know if its vented or not vented? Should all 1995 LT1's be vented?
Will this work from amazon?

Yes, 95s should be vented as factory stock. The Amazon one you list is for vented. The only reason I made a reference to vented was if it might have had a transplant to non-vented.

Thanks, Shoebox.
I do remember in 1996, GM changed under warranty my optispark because it went bad. I don't know the history on the vented and non vented. Would they have replaced with a non-vented? I'm thinking vented is better so know moisture builds up...am I right? Is there a way I can tell by looking at it?

If they installed a GM factory replacement on a 1-year old, unmolested 1995, it had to be vented. In stock configuration (different timing cover, timing set, cam nose, drive connection, short Opti harness) a non-vented factory Opti (stock 93/94 F-Body) cannot be installed in place of a factory vented Opti (95-97 F-Body).
Actually, GM added the vent system when they realized that in the unvented Opti, the high voltage discharge between the rotor and cap was generating ozone that accelerated corrosion on the Opti internals. My 94 (purchased new) started having problems with the unvented Opti at about 50K miles, and when I opened it up all the steel parts were rusty, and rust particles were blinding the LED emitter/receptor in the optical module. When I did the stroker, I found a new-in-box vented GM factory Opti, and had to change the timing cover, timing set, short harness, and make sure the new cam nose had the correct center hole and correct extended dowel pin required to drive the vented Opti, plus all the venting hoses and gadgets. I also had to do the conversion to the LT4 Extreme Duty timing set, and that is only available for the vented Opti.

Thanks for all the interesting background information, Injuneer! I looked at the wire on the car and it looks like the vented harness version in terms of the end connectors (I'm assuming the wiring the harness is different for the non-vented). I'll order the harness from 269 Motorsports in the link above on amazon.
Re: Need new optispark cable wire for 95 Z28
Wiring and connector on the side of the intake manifold are the same. Only difference is the length of the Opti end connector l. 93/94 is short, 95-97 is long.
The only “unusual” harness is for the 1992 Corvette, and has a 5th bare wire wrapped around the other four to minimize radio frequency interference. And apparently that was overkill, because later years use the same harness as the Camaro/Firebird.
