Need new opti...options?

well, its only been a few years, but the time yet again, to get a new opti. seems i let her sit too long, and something went bad. im sure its not the coil or ignition module cuz i test fired her with a good set and still nothing....

SOOOOOO.... the MSD is WAY too much?!?!?! plus more than ill prolly ever need...at least till the twin turbos go on.....

where is the best place to get a decent opti at a good price.... ive seen some on ebay...for around 112 or so.... parts direct wants 2something for theirs....

accel? anyone run one of these?

btw i need a vented unit...thanks

I would go with an Ac Delco. I got mine from "thepartsladi" on ebay. They sell em for 240 shipped. I installed mine today so we'll see how it goes, (knocks on wood).

I haven't heard anything but bad things about Accel. I have heard good things about the MSD unit, however you pay twice as much.

Take your pick...lol

So you tried to start up your car with a different coil and IM and it still wouldn't fire? If so, how does that eliminate the possibility of a bad coil or IM?
Did you test out the opti? Shoebox has a write up. I'd suggest doing so before spending that kind of money on a part you may not need.

As mentioned, identify if the optispark is the problem. If so, then I would just stick with another Delco replacement.

i would go with the msd the quality is way better, it doesn't break it comes with a built in harnest so it can't leak and it comes with venting hoses even for the older style ones so they can vent and stay dry. i got one and i don't regret the choice for spending double of what the acdelco one is because if it breaks once it will do it again.

I beg to differ, I have heard of the rotor screws backing out on out-of-the-box MSD opti's. Not that they all will do that, but it has happened before. There are no noticeable differences with going aftermarket. IMO the MSD is not worth the extra money...OEM ftw.

EDIT: I too bought an AC Delco opti from "thepartsladi" on ebay...2000 miles so far and no problems.

should be the opti at this point. The coil and IM I tried to use came off my lt1 caprice. So they DO work. The car still did not start. Last time she did this it was the opti. Res pulse failure was the code. Wish me luck. I will try the opti test first if I can figure it out

The test is not complicated. Just follow the directions (courtesy of Shoebox):
http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#opti_test

The terminals you will be using in the test are on the connector to the ICM. Good luck.

Best Opti Price

I just bought a new OEM Opti from www.autopartswarehouse.com for 105.00 with shipping to California and it works great! I have searched high and low and found that to be the most reliable source and price for this.

I searched on that site and came up with $210.34 for a Cardone opti, which is NOT oem. You say you found an OEM (= AC Delco) for $105??? I'm gonna have to call BS until you show me the exact link.

The Auto Parts Warehouse has to be one of the worst sites I have ever seen. Most of their "fits the following vehicles" don't make any sense at all, or they have the wrong pictures on the wrong products.

The only thing I see even remotely related to costing $105 is the "SNAP" distributor for 1987-1995 Chevrolet Camaro ($102):

This Product Fits the Following Vehicles:
1987-1995 Chevrolet Camaro
1994: 8Cyl 5.7L Z28

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...5QQ22142E.html

Huhhhh????

Then there's the most expensive cap in the world..... $369.04, not including the rotor

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...QQSIDR476.html

1993-1994 Chevrolet Camaro - Standard Distributor Cap
Part Number: SIDR476
MFR#: DR476
Descriptionistributor Cap, Original Equipment Replacement, Installs And Operates Just Like Your Original, Distributor Rotor Sold Separately Our Price: $369.04

Yea, I saw that too and couldnt stop laughing. But you have to admit,
having a distributor like that would make it easier to route the wires.

Sorry about that guys, I got my parts mixed up. I bought the water pump from Autoparts warehouse for 105.00 and the opti from this store on ebay for $119.00 which is still a good price so it wasn't really bs...check it out
and I'm not advertising to sell this. I actually bought it. http://stores.ebay.com/2A-Auto-Parts

Is that the code you got again this time or are you referring to the last time?
