Need more power from my 383..
Need more power from my 383..
Here is the deal. I installed a 383 with some other mods on my camaro.. Not super happy with the power. I built the motor for the bottle. It just does not fell that super stong to me.
Should i get aftermarket heads and a bigger cam
or should i go for a supercharger and run about 6psi on it?
I would guess both are going to be about the same price..
I would like to get somewhere in th 500rwhp here at 4000ft
Mods-
383ci with 5.7rods and 10.5:1
-
ele water pump
Hooker LT with true duals
42lb with aftermarket FP reg
Bigger fuel pump
Heads are home ported with 2.02 and 1.60
1.6 RR
and a CC306
Spark plug= tr6
Tune = PCMforless tune.
Clutch=twin disc
rearend=9 inch with 4.10's

Re: Need more power from my 383..
Get it tuned completely. Mail order tunes are good, but someone that is riding in the car and monitoring every single thing is way better. You will pick up alot with a good tune. Check your fuel pressure at idle and while driving. I was losing fuel pressure while driving and it affected my performance very badly. What are your plugs gapped at? What kind of wires are you running? What about exhaust? Are your rockers a little to tight? You may also want to opt for some better heads. 383 needs alot of breathing room to run good. Get some ported TFS heads or afr's.
Re: Need more power from my 383..
brokeTA- Plugs are gap at 35. The wires are OVC 9mm. The rockers could be a little to tight. i will have to check them out.. I would like to get some better heads but i just dont know to get better heads and cam or just supercharged it! I will look at the fuel presser today!
Mike96z- Who did your tune and what program did they use>
I also forgot to say but i have tunecats cable and all. So i can tune it myself.
PLus there is not a place that said they can tune it around here.
Even texas speed said they cant tune lt1s

Re: Need more power from my 383..
If your elevations is at 4000ft, a mail order tune is going to be a little tougher to nail. That could also be the problem. A car isn't going to run as strong at the kind of altitude.
Re: Need more power from my 383..
Probably nothin': I'm just wondering how one would get 500 RWHP (approx. 580+ crank hp) out of a 383 with 6psi. Just seems a bit amibitious to me. JMHO.
Re: Need more power from my 383..
amibitious is my middle name! ahha
hey plus too i'm just playing with numbers. 480 would be cool.
I have the mods to back it up to the ground.. just need the power to go.
Plus sealevel or 500ft is only a 10hour drive away!!

Re: Need more power from my 383..
If you want some better pistons, I have some 11.1 CR Forged J&E SRP's I'll sell ya. Depending on if you have forged pistons or not, I would just spray the thing until you get what you want.
When I was N/A I was making 420 to the wheels with my 383.
