1.6 Roller Rockers?

Hey guys quick question.I've been debating on putting 1.6's in my stock 94Z,but heres the thing a good friend of mine told me he did the same to his and around 4800 to 5000 rpm's his dyno readings droped a lot. What caused this valve float, spring compresing to much.Im no where near an expert but i dont want to do this and cause some seriouse damage. If i did go with the 1.6's would a lil beefier spring be in order or is this guy just blowing smoke up my a$$.Thanks Nick

People gain power with this, and its been a proven mod. You just have to make sure you upgrade the springs and set everything correctly. I havn't done it on mine though, so im speaking from what I've read.

Since your stock, just throw headers on it for now. You would probably gain more with a set of long tubes than 1.6 RR.

Definitely recommend springs: consider going with stong enough to support the cam, if any, you will be putting in. Even stock springs are pusing it when you get up over 5 grand. JMHO

Re: 1.6 Roller Rockers?

When you put 1.6 rockers on a car it takes the lift up. The stock springs can not handle much more than they have stock so he is getting valve float, a set of LT4 springs are good to .525 lift and are cheap($35). I'd just throw a pair on there if you are going to do the RRs. Personally they are a pain in the *** and for a stock car I would spend the money on some headers of a better bolt on.good luck either way tho.

Thanks guys ive been wondering about it.I think the best thing for me to do is stay out of the internals for now and go with just bolt ons.The thing with headers is you need the over the valve cover wires and quite a few people tell me that taylor wires arent that good.Have any of you tried those wires that look like braided steel(cant recall the name brains kinda stuck on dumb right now)

I dont have OVC wires and I have pacesetter LTs. Just wire-tie or zip tie them away and you will be fine.

Re: 1.6 Roller Rockers?

To begin with, you don't necessarily need OVC wires for headers. Moving to to RRs with increased lift---together with increasing the integrity of the valve train with the addition of appropriate spring pressures is all good.

Installing headers good idea since the exhaust is more restrictive than the intake, however, even if you have less restrictive exhaust, stock springs are still going to hurt you on the top end because they provide marginal control over the valves.

Since choosiing and installing headers seems to require more of a PIA, going with some good RRs and springs is not a bad place to start. JMHO
