NEed help with my header/ collector gaskets.
NEed help with my header/ collector gaskets.
I installed a set of Jet Hot long tube headers. The gaskets are now leaking. It's really noticable from the collector gaskets.
I'm using Mr. Gasket copper header gaskets to seal the headers to the engine and holding these down with Stage 8 bolts. I'm then using aluminum collector gaskets between the headers and the exhaust.
I'm not sure if the header gaskets are leaking, but the aluminum collector ones certainly are. I have the bolts cranked down TIGHT. I spoke with an exhaust mechanic today that said the aluminum and copper gaskets had to be heated with a torch before install. Anyone else had this problem? It's creating quite a smell from the collector leak and I threw an engine code. So, do the aluminum collector gaskets have to be installed warm, heated first and then cooled, or also sealed with something like copper RTV sealer?
Same for the copper header gaskets. I was told they should be heated with a torch and then cooled. Anyone else done this? Do I need to use RTV sealer on these gaskets too?
Any advice would be very appreciated!

I would try a new set. Install them finger tight, let the car run for a few mins then tighten them down. The exhaust heat should make them softer so you can then crank on them. I think they are a one time deal as far as getting a good seal.
