Is my clutch shot
Is my clutch shot
Little background info, car is a 96 SS with about 80k on it. I've had it for about a year and 9k miles. The clutch was supposedly replaced a year before I purchased it or 2 years ago.
Since I've had the car, it has made some rattling noise every now again when taking off from a stop at a low speed, but from reading here I've found out its most likely the throwout bearing and isn't a big deal at all.
Fast forward to a few days ago, now when taking off at low speeds, when the clutch is about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up before shifting into second, there is a grinding type noise that always occurs at the same spot relative to clutch position and I can feel it in the clutch pedal. If you just lift the clutch pedal up faster then usual you will not hear a thing and it doesn't do it in any other gear.

the only clue my clutch gave me that it was gone was a grinding noise that happened every so often, then after a while it would grind from take-off and fall on its face, especially if I reved it to about 2500 rpm. Sounds likeit could be going, I'd wait for it to get worse before going in there to change it, cause its a pain and there is a chance its some other problem. By the way there is a seperate section for drivetrain questions added recently. You might get more response from there
I moved this thread to the drive train forum, thanks for the suggestion, the link is:

drive you car in 3rd or second at 3 or 4k and punch it. If the motor begins to rev before the car takes off, your cluth is slipping and you will need a new one soon. If it is slipping you will def. know, you will feel it catch.

the car bogs but doesn't rev, so I guess the clutch isn't slipping.
