NEED HELP! Cross-Threaded Header Bolt -- What tap do I use

Anyone know what tap I need to clean the threads in the head the the header bolt screws into? Also, what Heli-Coil would I use if I can't save the threads.

Thanks.

Just a thought... to Heli-Coil the head you'll probably have to take it off. What I ended up doing was using a slightly longer bolt (1X3/8 I believe). Anyway, it was long enough to catch the rest of the threads and so it worked perfectly. You might want to try that first. Good luck.

Thank you both for the help. What I'll do is try to chase the threads; if that doesn't work I'll try the longer bolt. If all else fails, I'll p&p the heads.

Thanks again.

Hopefully you can chase the thread or just use a longer header bolt. The longer bolt usually work.

Heli-coil - as long as you have enough room to drill the hole you won't need to pull the head. You may also try to cut the bit shorter to help.

the simplest thing something cost a big problem, hopefully it will be a quick fix.

good luck
