Need HELP, car won't start, electrical problems

Well, i went to start my car earlier this week, and when i turned the key.......nothing. My battery is fullly carged, the fuel pump was kicking on, and I checked all fuses to be sure. Everything seemed ok. So me and my dad tried to roll start it out of the drive way, and it almost caught but not quite. Anyways, it led me to believe it was the starter. So I picked up a new one earlier today and replaced it.

Tried to start it again, and nothing. The starter doesn't even turned the flywheel at all, i don't understand it. It made perfect sense too that it was the starter, cause when i got it out, the casing was cracked, and when i shook it, it sounded like something was rattling around inside, so i figured that had to be it.

Whenever I turn the key now, all I hear is a click from the fuse panel under the hood, but all fuses are ok. It leads me to believe it is some sorta electrical problem. Could it be a blown relay???

Also, I heard about some sorta saftey switch/relay for the clutch. Is this a possibility? Any help is greatly appreciated. I havent driven my baby all week and am dying to get it out on the road.

There's a similiar post right now started by Getsome17. Suggest you read it...points to your VATS system or clutch safety switch.

When you turn the key to run does the security light come on for a moment then shut off? Check the wire to the starter solenoid with someone on the clutch and turning the key to start and see if you have 12vdc. I presume you have a 6 speed.

Thanks OBE1 95Z28, i actually posted to that thread already.

Lyle A: The security light stays blinking the whole time the key is in the run position. What would that suggest??

Also, i'm not very electrically competent with cars. Mechanically yes, electrically no. Can you give me some pointers on how to do this??

If your security lamp is blinking, the security system is keeping the car from starting. It is not seeing the resistance of the pellet on the key. Try another key and/or clean the one you have and the key cylinder. You can also bypass the pellet by reading the resistance of the key pellet and getting a resistor(s) to closely match it. You then have to insert the legs of the resistor at the connector under the dash.

If the light flashes then it's having a problem reading your key. Try cleaning the contacts on it or try a different key.

Ok, I tried cleaning it by rinsing it and rubbing it dry. Still no luck. SHould I be using some sort of solvent???

And I dont' have another key unfortunately. I was only given one with the car. I dont really want to go having another one cut either unless i'm 99% sure that that is the problem either, after all I just spent $150 on a rebuilt starter, which wasnt' even the problem.

SHoebox:

How do I clean the cylinder?? A Q-tip?

Also, I've found the value of my Pass-II key. It is approx 6K ohm. I believe i have some of those resistors laying around actually. I'm gonna try what u suggested about putting in the resistor tomorrow (ran outta day light). If it does work, then what?? WHich parts need replacing to get it working like it used to??

You can put the key in the switch and see if you read the pellet at the switch end of the connector. That will tell you if it's in the switch or the wiring from the steering column. If inserting a resistor works then your problem is definitely somewhere in that area. I guess you could try a little alcohol or electronic cleaner on a q-tip to clean the switch contacts. Make sure you dont get it into the lock cylinder because it will make it stiff. A light rubbing on the key contacts with an ink eraser can clean it. (slot car rail cleaners work good too)
