Need help bad!!!

I installed long tubes and the car ran fine for a bit then it started throwing a code from the o2 sensor i replaced with a sim. Im not sure how to fix it because the sim is brand new and the wiring looked fine.

Maybe there is an exhaust leak before the O2.

What year is your camaro and which O2 did you replace with an O2 simulator? O2 sims are only used on OBD2 cars 96-97 for the "downstream" or second set of O2 after the cat. You still need a set of O2's in the collectors.

Yeah I replaced the right ones and I bought extensions for the others.. An exaust leak can throw a 02 sensor code..Even so I am pretty sure thats not it because I have only drove the car prolly 100 miles since I put the headers on.

If the headers are coated you have to let them run for a bit to burn off before putting the O2s in or it will ruin them.

Re: Need help bad!!!

Switch the sims from side to side, and see if the code follows the sim (faulty/defective sim) or stays on the same side (faulty wiring).

A problem with a sim is not going to be caused by coating burnoff or an exhaust leak.

Why not add a "signature" with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, trans and any major mods. That way people won't have to ask you "What year is your camaro?" Even after he asked you, we still don't know.

Re: Need help bad!!!

So I was told that the simulators dont have a heater sim in them but the regular sensors have a heater and thats why it is throwing the code. Also I now have a misfiring code on my car and I have no idea why. I checked the spark plug wires and none of them looked bad and the plugs looked good when I put them back in when I installed the long tubes. I have a 97 camaro z28 with long tubes thats all the mods for now I just got the car.

I had sims in my car for while before I got the rear O2's tuned out. I never had a problem. Where did you get the sims from? New/Used? Did you try what Injuneer suggested? So no mis prior to the longtubes and right after, but now you are getting one? What kind of plugs and wires? How old are they how many miles on them? Have you checked to see if any of your wires are arching?

Re: Need help bad!!!

The misfire could be due to O2 sensor contamination, either from the header coatings (if they are cera-metallic coated) or from handling. Generally though, at this point its going to be a cracked plug, a loose plug, wire not fully on the plug, wire arcing to the headers, etc.

Are you saying the sims you bought plugged into the 4-wire after-cat harness connector, but do not have a resistor to simulate the heater circuit? Hard to believe anyone would make and sell a sim like that. Were they super cheap ebay "sims"?

The car info is good, but you need to do a "SIGNATURE" so the info is automatically added to each of your posts.

Re: Need help bad!!!

I bought the sims off this site it does not have a brand on the sensor but one of my plug wires head is very very close to touching so I went and bought new plugs nkg plugs was told they were good and bosch wires hope this fixes it. What makes me think it wont is because the computer at advanced said random cylinder misfire and Im not sure if this means random cylinders are misfiring or a single cylinder is misfiring at random times. Also is it possible that it could be my cap and button misfiring. Thanks for all the help hope the signature helps the folks on here with my problems.
