Need help for 94z

I just changed my starter Monday and now the engine is running poorly. It sat for 1 1/2 months before I changed it. The car is auto and stock. I was told it was out of timing but I don't know how to set timing on this car.About 5 months ago I changed the distributor, wires, plugs, and fuel filter. I have a chilton manual but they don't tell too much! Before the starter went out it wasn't running like this and I don't know what went wrong.Right after I changed the things it ran like a champ. I got msd distr. and msd wires. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Are you sure it was the starter that was bad: and not the elec. system, including the alt. and battery? If it sat for that long and your battery wasn't any good or fully charged it may have been your battery and not your starter to begin with. You can't just bring a battery up to snuff by driving it after sitting for a few weeks, especially if it is old or not really powerful. You obviously have to have good juice to run properly. JMHO

What does the volt meter on the dash show? Loss of voltage will screw up a lot of things, and can make it run rough. Maybe a short in the wiring to the new starter?

Did you unhook the battery cables when you did the starter R&R? That will have reset the long term fuel corrections in the PCM, perhaps making it seem to run poorly until the long term corrections are relearned.

Other than those two items, there not much changing the starter would make the engine run poorly.

Also a possibilty that the fuel "bad' from sitting for a while.

You can't change the timing on the LT1, unless you reprogram the tables in the PCM. If the Opti was installed with the splined shaft properly indexed to the cam sprocket, there is no way anything can be "out of time". If it ran great after the Opti, plugs and wires, there's nothing that letting it sit for a while, or changing the starter could have affected.

Re: Need help for 94z

Take it for a drive and put some new gas in it. If things don't get better then go over your wiring again. If it was running fine before there's no reason anything should be wrong unless you messed something up with the wiring. Bad gas and/or a "dumped" ECM can be corrected by driving it and letting it relearn.

Is it possible you may have broken a wire in the O2 harness or unplugged it by accident? It's right in that area.
