need help on 700r4 problems

Is the 700r4 in my 85 Chev 1/2 ton the same as my 700r4 in my 93Z28??

I have a 1985 Chev 1/2 ton with 305 and a 4 speed auto which I am sure is 700r4

It knocks just like a bottom end engine knock. I know it is either in the tourque/tranny as I took the three tourque converter bolts out and started the engine up and no knock at all. I am also sure it isn't bottom end because I have been driving it like this for 4 mnths and engine has decent oil psi and runs great. I also have revved the heck out of the engine a time or two as I thought it was bottom end, motor is fine.

Other info:

- once warmed up (hot)very little knock.
- knocks at idle in neutral and in gear but with some throttle (in gear)it goes away
- knocks both reverse and forward
- knock is much worse upon cold start
- knock sounds like it coming out of tourque converter

what could I have going here??

The transmissions are similar, but not the same.

It's possible the noise your hearing is a cracked converter hub. The transmission pump can make some odd noises, too, but if it's still operating OK, then I'd lean toward the converter hub.
