need a guesstimate on MPG with CC306

I'm about to switch over to the CC306, I need a guesstimate on what the MPG will/should be with and without a tune from MAD Z28... About to take a 1600 mile trip in April and need to know how much money to allot for gas...

I will be running the below config...

-CC306 Cam (what's the Combination Motorsports Part Number for it?)

-1.6RR (Give me suggestions )

-L.E. Ported and Polished Heads (2.02" Intake 1.6" Exhaust)

-Hopefully some 30#ers (won't be revving so it won't matter except for tune)

-Jet-Hot MAC Midlengths (No CAT) through SLP 2OTL

-NO EMISSIONS except EGR (I might block it off)

-No A/C system

And I don't run anything less than 93 octane maybe 91 due to the redneck Carolina's

BTW: if you all have any suggestions on revisions, post'm up. I am on quite a bit of a budget. I'm trying to keep this cam swap to under a grand...

Guys, I know its a guesstimate, this post isn't meant to start fights... If it gets out of hand, I'll delete it....

With ported heads and a 230/236-112, I get about 24-25 on the highway. That was with stock 3.43 gears driving in fifth gear at a steady 65-70 and turing 2500 RPM. Once I get the 4.10s installed, I would guess the MPG will go up some, since I will be able to use sixth gear. I got 340 miles out of a tank over Thanksgiving.

Around town, it's hard to keep your foot out of it, so those numbers aren't great.

I know it's not a 306, but it's close.

So Dave, you are putting in a CC306 for gas mileage purposes?

Why can't you use 6th right now? Your engine does'nt have enough low end grunt to pull 6th that low? I'm just wondering.

I got about 12-14 mpg with stock heads, but mine's and auto.

Now with heads, looks to be about the same. But I haven't gone through a full tank of gas yet to find out.

I can use sixth gear, and do at times. It's just that in sixth, that Geo Metro next to you on the freeway seems to have nitrous or something.

With stock 3.43, the car is undergeared. At the 6400 RPM redline in second, I'm already at almost 75. Then I have the other four gears to use...

AHHH, Ok, I'm pickin up what your laying down Not running in 6th drives me crazy. I let a friend drive my car, and he won't use 6th just because he does'nt have "enough power" All it takes is a stab of the clutch and a simple arm movement. Lazy fawker.

These are my observations of my friend driving, not you. You have different circumstances i'm sure.

You're expecting to get better gas mileage by going from a 3.43 to a 4.10? I'm predicting a decrease in gas mileage if you go that route. The 4.10 is draggier.

I have a CC305 in mine. With 4.10 gears, 26" tall tires, an auto trans, ported heads, and 30# injectors I got 18 MPG when I still had my lock-up 3200 stall converter. The car was running 12.3 at that time.

....Whatever happened to the 5 line sigs?

Anyway, I get 14 mpg driving the smaller CC305 around town w/ 3.42 gears w/ M6. But thats not going easy , that's driving how I want to drive. I could probably squeak 16 mpg driving like a granny. On the highway, I'm not sure, I would estimate around 21 mpg. But this is a smaller cam than yours, so it will be worse in your car.

And to those who cruise at 65-70 in 5th gear.....why cruise at 65 mph in 5th gear? If you're cruising, you're not accelerating, if you need to accelerate, Downshift, but that's my opinion on it. If Im' cruising, I'll go into 6th gear at 55-60. I love the 6th gear!
