Need a favor from anyone changing their oil in the next little while

I'm doing a LT1 swap into a 85 s-10 blazer, truck didn't come w/ anything attached to the oil filter boss, but I was given the oil filter adapter p/n: 3952302. I've done enough research to know this is right. But, I can easily push the bypass spring in w/ the end of a bic pen and was wondering if this is normal.

Anyone changing their oil, can you take a minute and just see how much tension your bypass valve has and post? I'd appreciate it.

What I'm talking about is located approximately 1/2" from the threads that the oil filter spins on to, next to one of the fastener bolts, looks like a black plate in a recessed hole about 3/8" in diameter, recessed about 1/8", you can push on it and it'll receed into the aluminum housing it's sitting in. I'd say mine has maybe 5 lbs of resistance just giving it the ol push and guess method. You may get some oil running out of there when you push on it, just forewarning, so don't have your head under it or be looking into it when you push on it

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

The bypass is very lightly sprung, almost like there is no spring there. Thats to let it open easy when it needs to.

The spring is there is open if the DIFFERENTIAL pressure across the filter increases above a certain value. That is a very small pressure, hence the spring is not very strong. It is not intended to release at oil system pressure.

Thanks all, I appreciate the info. I wasn't sure how well oil flowed through the media of different filters so wasn't sure if it was supposed to be strong or not. I just went ahead and ordered a new one to be on the safe side.
