need data monitoring help

I currently have Bryan Herter doing my pcm but do not monitor data on runs. I've heard (I'm new to the computer controlled cars) that I can purchase a cable somewhere and download a free program to allow me to log data on my laptop during runs. Can someone point me to where I purchase the cable and where I download the program? Also, eventually I would like to learn to reprogram my own pcm. Is LT1 edit what I would need to do this? I know Bryan does a good job, but I feel like with changing track altitudes and weather conditions, if I could adjust the pcm I could squeeze more et out. I understand this will be a huge learning curve, but have Stock and Super Stock friends running 10-second LT1 F-bodies with DFI units that could help me. Thanks in advance for the help!
