Need cam advice!!!!
Need cam advice!!!!
have a 94 6 spd with 3.73's. i would like to cam the car this winter, and I would like to start getting some advice on the best cams to buy. I'd like to stay away from the hotcam, since everybody in my area is running that. I have stock heads, intake, but i have a 52mm throttle body if that aids any in the advice. anybody had any experience with the cc305? and is it ok to run 1.6's on the cc305 (.541/.541" lift) on stock heads/intake? thanx a lot
Re: Need cam advice!!!!
I've heard nothing but compliments about the CC305, and it should give you more power than the hotcam, plus it will do pretty well with ported heads too if you decide to go that route later. You could try the 306 but I don't think you'll get any more power out of that (plus you'll have driveability and gas mileage issues) unless you get some head work done.
Re: Need cam advice!!!!
If your going to run any cam 1st piece of advice is swap your springs in your heads b/c they will not hold the lift of an aftermarket cam are you planning on doing port work in the near future or a head swap? its also a good idea to replace your lifers, timing chain and get a good tune when replacing your cam to get the most out of your parts and prevent having to do the work again b/c of a failed lifer or chain. The cam all depends on what you want out of the set up, Hp sound, future mods, street app, drag only etc.
Re: Need cam advice!!!!
This is what I would get I met a guy with this cam and heard this cam one time, it sounded awesome and the car seemed pretty fast though I dont know what it dynoed.

I would get 1.6 rr's to bring the lift up a bit.

Re: Need cam advice!!!!
well, obviously I'd swap the springs, reatiners, locks, as well as timing chain, maybe lifters, and lt1 edit to do all the tuning i'd need. I'd just like to run stock heads for a while. i'll probably port match the intake, and other small things like that to try and help some flow. in the future, I'll probably have the stock heads/intake hogged out. i'm not going to worry about buying lt4 heads or anything. I've seen people running 550+ rwhp on hogged out lt1 heads. ths stock heads are aluminum on my car anyway.
I do want a ton of driveablility, as i drive my car daily in the nice weather. I don't want to sacrifice a ton of gas mileage, but it doesn't matter a whole lot since i have other cars for the no so fun long drives. I'm sticking with drag racing, so thats what i want the cam to perform on. I've been wanting to run the cc305, but i'm not sure whether to use 1.5rr's (.510/.510 lift) or 1.6's (.541/.541 lift). ??????????

So for me it's either go bigger with the cam and get head work done, or keep the cam and go supercharger. Either way, I'm a broke *** fool who is dreaming at best for the time being
Re: Need cam advice!!!!
I say the CC305... I got 23 MPG when I kept my foot off the floor, and trapped 113 in the 1/4 and almost 89 in the 1/8th with stock heads, 58 MM TB, long tubes, and 30 lb svo's the car ran great had no driveability issues. That setup was the one I enjoyed the most.
