Question need advice on shifters (especially this one) please

which shifter do you guys approve of, enjoy most? where would be some good places to pick one up? i found this one on sale for about 150.00, is it worth it??? thanks in advance!

{{{This custom setup consists of a new SLP short throw shifter, a new TNA short stick and a new Hurst shift ****. The SLP Shifter is already one of the best shifters out there, but adding the TNA short stick is what makes it out perform the rest. The TNA short stick is made of high strength, light weight steel and is 6 1/2 inches long. That is 1 1/2" shorter then the factory shifter stick. By shortening the stick, the shifter throws are shotened by approximately 17%. The end of the shaft is threaded to fit your stock or Hurst ****. It is M16 x 1.50 threads and they are 1 1/2 inches long so you can cut more off the length and make the shaft even shorter, creating even a shorter throw. The bottom is milled on both sides so it fits flush with the bolts and shift mechanism. Unlike other "short stick" manufacturers, we include the spacer that allows the shifter stick to stay centered in the factory location of the console in your vehicle. The others' "short stick" leaves your shifter stick about 2" over to the right of the console, making it further to reach and way off center. The TNA short stick will bolt up to many other shifters such as the factory Hurst, Billet Hurst, Kirban and Pro 5.0 improving their performance also.}}}

i have basically the same shifter, the SLP unit from an SS, and a lou's short stick

its freaking awesome. but not $150 awesome...

i paid $105 for mine including all shipping...bought the new stick separate for $55.

if you are thinking the $150 range, look for a used Pro 5.0 pretty much the best shifter available.

if you are ona budget, look around for the SLP shifter used and buy a short stick

I went from a stock shifter to a Hurst out of a SS and then to a Pro 5.0 with Lou's short stick. The hurst was a lot better than stock but I still missed 3rd occasionaly, and then I upgraded to the 5.0 w/ Lou's short stick. The 5.0 totally blew away the Hurst. Shifting was a lot smoother. Pro 5.0 is the best shifter on the market IMO...

I'll give you my 2 cents. The stock shift sucks because of the big rubber shock mount for the stick. I bought a short stick off of Ebay that fit the stock shifter, put on a Hurst leather shift **** from SLP and I love it. The short stick eliminates the big rubber shock mount. Each shift is so much crisper with this set-up. I used to miss 3rd when I went to strip and since the new stick, I haven't missed it once.

Good luck,
Glenn

I have heard good things about the B&M Ripper, and also drove a 98 Z28 with one. Compared to the stock shifter in my TA, the Ripper seems to have nearly 50% shorter throws - you hardly have to move the stick. Day and night difference in shifter feel. Makes the stock shifter feel like a giant rubber band. Doesn't require a whole lot more effort either like many other short throw shifters.

As for the Pro 5.0, I guess you can't go wrong with them. Everybody seems to like them. The throw reduction is also greater with a 5.0 than a Hurst. You just have to be careful when buying used Hurst shifters. Many so-called Hurst shifters out there are nothing more than stock shifters out of SS cars with a Hurst stick and ****.

Done the same thing here, too and loooove this setup. I picked up a Hurst Short Stick with a leather wrapped shifter **** and bolted it to the stock shifter. Made a world of difference indeed. And depending on what stick and **** you get, you'd more than likely come home with lots of extra cash there. I picked up the Hurst stick through another local F-Bod guy for $25 and the **** at a swap for $15. I've heard great things about the 5.0 but simply if you're on a budget this isn't a bad plan at all.
