need advice from the engine gurus

hey guys.. hows it going... been a while huh? been VERY VERY busy with work. Plus some personal issues... but I digress... my camaro is sick and I need your help.

It started ticking pretty bad and I changed the oil. Ticking still there... did some troubleshooting and determined that one of the lifters was bad...ripped the intake and valve covers off and changed ALL the lifters. Looked at the lifters and none of the rollers is marred so I am not thinking there is an issue with the cam... put it ALL back together.. and TICK TICK TICK.... seems to be coming from the #3 cylinder but you know how that goes...

it doesn't do it ALL the time... only from about idle thru 1200 RPM and then it doesn't go ALL the way away but it definately isn't ticking as hard as it is when I first give it gas... I put some "gunk" into the oil to clean out the inside of the engine... that didn't fix it.. still ticking... put a mechanical oil gage on it and I have GOOD oil pressure...
I HIGHLY doubt its a bearing because I drove it 200 miles home and it didn't get worse.. or better...

ANY IDEAS?

thanks
AL

Used to work for Manitowoc Engeneering Crane Division.

Readjust all the valves with 1/2 turn, might want to look at the valve stem end of all of your rockers, first. A wear pattern on the tips will cause them to be noisy and tick.

Just an idea but sometimes an exhaust leak or an arching spark plug wire will cause a ticking sound.
