Question natrually aspirated or super charger

Hi

I am looking to buy a 93- 95 camaro z28 right now, my plans were to forge the engine with a stroker, pistons, rods, and supercharge it, etc......However as I have been reading this board for months, researching and learning about this car I have heard many people say that they have superchargers and wish they could start over and build a NA engine...... After reading alot of this, it made me confused on what to do

Since I didn't yet start any projects yet, I wanted to ask you's in which path should I go(NA or SC)

I want to build a very powerful yet reliable engine that isn't going to fail on me

Thankyou, Matt

It's cool to have a 450rwhp supercharged car and all, but having a 400rwhp car NA is just so much cooler to me. Headers and the right heads/cam combo and you'll even surprise yourself as to how quick you are.

if u build your bottom end for low compression and boost then u can have a 550 hp car.. Otherwise a supercharger will give u about 450hp and alittle more torque.. and you run a chance of blowing it up..

Course i did heads and cam and blew up my bottom end... car was quick as hell though.. faster than both my friends who supercharged there cars.. they kept having problems and only ran 4lbs of boost.

I vote for N/A....had my 383 since 1995 & 420rwhp on pump gas....never had the valve covers off...times in my sig....It wasn't cheap, but its held together for 9 years and is just as fast and quick (actually quicker) then when it was fresh in 1995...The damn thing is more reliable than my old Pathfinder was....

if you supercharge it you might also want to worry about tearing up your rear end.

I know the whole drivetrain will need to be replaced or rebuilt, ad if I do supercharge I will forge all of the internals so they could handle it, I just want to know how long it would last being built like that or will it still not be reliable when built up

I am shooting for atleast 600 horsepower or more

thanksalot for the help

It depends on what you want. If you want raw power, your best bet would prolly be to go 396 stroker, worked AFR LT4 heads (flowing in the 330+ range), and a SICK cam (250+ duration) . That would put you somewhere in the 500-600 rwhp (~600-700 at the fly). You also gotta consider doin that would make it much less "streetable" which really only matters for autos except for the gas issue (it will drink the stuff).

If you want a car that your mother could drive, then go with boost. Will make roughly 350-500 rwhp depending on the setup. Personally im not a big fan of SC, id rather go turbo.

so you are saying that I wouldn't be able to get over 500 horsepower with a supercharger and a fully built motor?

sorry for all the questions but I' m not the best at this stuff

Sorry, Im thinking stock bottom end.

Yea on a built engine, you could make much more than 500 rwhp. But you are limited to around +/- 12 lbs boost on 9:1 built engine on pump gas.

As stated earlier, NA is safer. Personally i would go stroked NA with direct port nitrous.

It all depends on what you want though. I guess if you are going fully forged internals then yea, a boosted car will give you more HP than a NA car would.

I guess it is just too hard to say without knowing what kinda money you are looking to spend and what your goals are.

You could get over 500hp with a s/c. I would rather go with a turbo though like someone else had mentioned. Personally my car is going to stay n/a for that "raw power" thing. You could aslo think about going n/a then if your car could handle it sneak a 100 or so shot in there. Good luck with whatever you choose.

thats exactly what I mean, but I was also wondering if I did all forged internals and supercharged it, will the engine be reliable or amm I gonna have future problemswith it and spend excessive amounts of money on fixing it and wishing I woul have went with NA...also how bad do you think the gas mileage will be like this

I was looking at the ATI d1sc to go with the engine

thankyou for all the info
