looks like quite a bit of shavings in therE?
You most likely spun one of the bearing..if not all of em

Red face

My money is on a spun bearing too...I spun a bearing in my old Cavalier, and it sounded similar to that. I hope for your sake that isn't it though.

Pulled them out, wiped em off, pushed in all the cups w/ a pushrod, the 8 or so I pressed, non compressed...

Is it possible to collapse that many lifters?!?

I noticed that while upside down, some leaked some oil, some didn't.

I agree...time for a rebuild. Mine did the same thing a couple of weeks ago...started knocking and rattling, lack of power, low oil pressure. We cut my oil filter open and discovered that the majority of the main bearings had made themselves a new home in the bottom of the filter. Nothing you can do but tear it down and hope that everything is still in fairly good condition.

I would say that something had been going on over time. Whatever was causing the shavings finally clogged up enough oil passaged to cause starvation to the bearings. A complete tear down and clean up is in order unless you just want to find a salvage yard engine to throw in it for your "driver". You might be surprised how cheap you could find one.

yep, i can pick up an LT1 from an impala/caprice for only $500.. that is the entire thing including pcm. might be worth checking out if you can find a low mileage one.

Hmmm, I think I'll try that then. Wonder what caused it?!

I'll call around to some JY's tomorrow. It's my driver, but it's also my race car until I get the mustang going

Hopefully it can still hit 13.9 after a rebuild.

I'd like to get out of this cheap as possible. Just reliable transportation. My lifters might be clogged too, I don't know. I have to see what needs replacing now.

How far can these blocks be bored over?

I'll probably get a Summit rebuild kit w/ forged pistons, some machine work, and learn how to build an engine

the typical little old lady doesnt realize theres more to a car than turning it on, putting it in gear and pushing on the gas pedal. i wouldnt be surprised if the oil was only changed twice since she had it

Cool

You spun the farthest rear passenger side rod bearing. You will probably have to drop the crank out of it also since your gonna have some rough crank journals since those shavings have had to make their way all the way through the engine at one point and time. You can have the rods resized, the crank ground, and put it back together. Make sure to have it dipped and honed along with a new set of rings. Your looking at $600 if you were here in KY. My whole rebuild counting assembley and all head work (no porting) was $1600. Stock rods/ crank, but it's a tight lil engine that will s-c-r-e-a-m.

I had the exact same knock in mine when the oil pump was going south. It didn't even knock until I hit 1500 rpm...

Not doubting, but what makes you say it's the rear pass side rod bearing

I'm wondering while I have it apart how much better I can make it for CHEAP.
