Re: My Racetronix fuel pump install with trap door thoughts

I had never done any kind of fuel pump install before and it took like 30 min max to do the swap, using the trap door method. I don't believe I used the bucket at all. Been fine for a couple years now.

Just a note to the trap door method doubters and people scared to cut the metal for fear of sparks. Although I didn't install the racetronic kit, I used essentially the same thing (the granatelli kit). Pulling that tank would have been a MAJOR pita, but I was indeed worried about sparks. SOOO, I went down to Harbor Freight and picked up a pistol grip air shear. Man, worked like magic! If your at all worried about sparks, it's the way to go. Also, When I made a panel to cover it back up, I made it from 16 gauge sheet metal painted with POR-15 and held in with 18 stainless rivets. I would venture to say that it's now stronger than it was before, and it's sure not going anywhere!

Really just wanted to bring up the air shears though. They are the BOMB for doing this. Worth every penny..Takes all of 2 minutes to cut the hole And no chance of sparks..

Re: My Racetronix fuel pump install with trap door thoughts

I installed my racetronix kit with the trap door method as well. I drilled a hole on the corner and used cutting shears (tin snips) to cut the square. verry easy. Also I used 12ga aluminum for the cover with SS self tapping screws. Sence I didn't have the proper instructions when I did the install . I put the feed line (flexable one) straight on the metal line to the sending unit. Needless to say the dang fuel was draining back causing hard starting. I am soo glad that I did the trap door method because when I found out what I did wrong , it only took me 10 min to fix and runs like a champ now. So for me it was a great choice.

I used the "drop the tank" method and my walbro 255 was dead-on-arrival Luckily I tested the pump before I put the rear-end back in and saw that it was 0 psi. Has anyone else ever had one that was bad when they got it?

I just emailed New Era this morning. Hopefully they don't give a the run-around trying to get a replacement.
