My Little 355, need suggestions.

I am currently running Lloyds LE2 heads with a GM847 cam, I have spoken with Lloyd reguarding swapping cams in order to see better hp/tq gains however he feels that with my current cam I will not see an noticable difference.

I wanted to stick with Stock casting heads/intake and see 500rwhp on this car, however it looks like this is an imposibility with my current 355.

I was curious what would need to be changed/upgraded to see what I am wanting.

I currently have 430rwhp and 389tq. Mods are in my sig.

From what i understand 450rwhp is amazing on LT1 castings. And the 847 is a pretty big cam, I believe that i am right to say you would have to go solid roller to achieve 500rwhp. Just my opinion.

I am not an expert on NA LT1 power, but I do know that aren't going to see 500rwhp with the stock intake.

You are not going to see 500rw with a 355 unless you put a solid roller in and spin it to 7800+rpms.

You are making good power with your combo now. In your current form, you wont see more than 10rw with tweaks. Be happy you made that much

Re: My Little 355, need suggestions.

If I swap the intake out do I have to switch heads as well? Is 450 more easily attainable? I am just looking for a little more power were I can put down 10's on my N/A setup, even if its high 10's. I am very new to nitrous and would rather stay away from it if its not needed to get me into the 10's. However I have heard nothing but good about the zex kits, so I may go that route if there isnt much more I can do to increase my current HP without changing to different heads.

Thats going to be very difficult with stock castings and intake,a set of aftermarket first gen heads single plain intake with fuel injection would get you there and could also eliminate the pesky rpm limited opti. even if you could get enough cfm out of the heads the intake is definetly going to be the problem.

Well, Tim Herrington is going 10s on a NA 355, but he has countless hours of tuning (both engine and track). So, it is possible. He uses LT4 heads/intake though. But again, he has a fairly large solid roller.

You could do a single plane intake on it which would pick up some torque and hp, but it is an expensive conversion and alot of fabrication work.

What does your car run now? There really is no sense in chasing 10s unless you first have a starting point as to what your car runs now first. Running those numbers is alot more than just how much power is at the wheels.

My thoughts exactly.

Make sure you optimize what you have before you go chasing more power.

James Eddy is running 10's on LT1 Heads and Intake, look in the Drag Racing Section under "10.80's on DR". I almost hit 10's with LT4 Heads and Intake, so it's attainable. I know my car is a Stock Bottom End, and I'm pretty sure James is too!

Im not saying it cant be done its just difficult to get a tune accurate enough to attain it(look at my n/a mph its good for 10's with a good tune)I spent countless hours tryingfor 10's n/a but in the end gave it up for a new sb conversion that will put me into bottom 10's n/a.

Well, I havent ran it at the track yet, however I race my buddy on the street sometimes and he runs a 11.6 @ 116mph and we are pretty much dead even. So I could estimate that I run realy close to him.

I havent done a single suspension, weight reduction, or rear end mod. I know if I lightened the car and did some suspension mods to get the power to the ground then I would defiantly be doing better, I was just trying to focus and get all I could out of the motor first.

I think this winter I will be removing the front swaybar and any other free mods that help with drag racing.

if you got the time and a little money i recommend you go to dekalb illinois and visit with ian(madz28) and have him run a data logger on your car and tune it perfect, he did my buddies 93 once before we went up there and it was crazy then we had him do a fine tune for 4 hours and we picked up 4 to 5 tenths

Unfortunantly I live in Alaska, that would be a far ways out of my way to drive down there. But, you never know, it could happen.

Can't let the street tell you where you at. Anything can happen on the street.

Uhh, suspension would be key! And any lightening possible, such as an aftermarket K member and no rear seats and whatnot.
