Question My ignition keeps getting stuck???

Help! My ignition has been getting stuck alot lately. Several times in the past week, when I go to turn off the ignition it is stuck! The other day, I couldn't even turn off my car. I had to actually pull my ignition fuse just to shut it off, then after alot of fighting I was able to turn the key off and pull it out. It seems like when I crank the car, the key turns the ignition too far, and it just sticks there. Occasionally when this happens, I can't even start the car. I have to unstick it and crank it again. Is there an easy fix for this, or is this a sign that my ignition is going out on me? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the ignition switch is either going bad and jamming internally or the mount is loose and causing the linkage to jam. There is some ignition switch replacement info on my Tech Page if you need it. My bet is your switch is dying.

Wow, thanks alot, so I guess that would explain why the car wont start sometimes when it does that. How much of a pain in the **** it this to replace the ignition switch. I read your tech article and it looks fun, lol

It's not all that bad. The working space is the worst part.

How bad is it to do while the steering column is in the car? I dont mind taking everything apart, but just wondering. Also, in the article I didnt see where to disable the airbag, or did I miss it. I dont want a face full of steering wheel. Thanks for you help.

Doing it while in the car makes it twice as hard, IMO, because of the lack of space as I said. Easier to get it installed correctly out of the car and is not much more trouble to pull the column (4 bolts).

The airbag is one of the first things mentioned under disconecting. I can help you next weekend if you have not fixed it by then. I will only charge you 1 million dollars since you are my friend.
