Is my guage off?

According to my temp guage, my car is running hot, needle is right under the red. But when I get out of the car, I hear no boiling or anything. Is my guage off? Is this a common problem? How can I check this out? Thanks.

all i can tell you is that the "guage being off" is not a common problem.

have you checked for the normal cures for overheating, such as:
1. radiator obstructions
2. checked fluids
3. checked waterpump
4. leaks?
5. thermostat working?

does the gauge raise slowly to this temp, or is it stuck there when you start up?

Well I had the fluids flushed about 2 weeks ago. Waterpump was installed 10K miles ago, along with the thermostat. And there are no leaks. It could be the radiator, but I am not sure whether I should have mine rodded out, or just by a new one. The temp gauge slowly increases.

my suggestions:

new thermo (i've had some go bad in less than 10k)
manual fan switch (great mod, cheap and fairly easy)
CLEAN ALL THE CRAP OUT OF YOUR AC CONDENSOR!!!

with all the crap i found lodged in mine.. i was SHOCKED that the radiator was getting any air at all....

Thanks for the input, although I already have a manual fan switch. I agree it is a great mod, and it only cost me $15 to make.
