I am lookin at an old mag with all the Pure Stock Challenge and the fastest a 455 went was 12.806@ 108.21. The car was 4050 lbs. It was a Buik GS. Fastest GTO with a 455 was 13.99. Keep in mind these are built back to EXACT factory specs incliding thier tires. There is about 5 other GTO and 455's running in mid 14 area. They make great power but can't get it to the ground and are HEAVY. What year is his GTO? Get a stall and shift kit with some suspension and I'll put my money on you

 

You can have the fastest car but can't drive it you won't win anything.
I dought its being built to run like the pure stock drag cars.
What I would do is when he starts to talk crap just clam up everytime and smile,.
If you invest your money in anything get a good set of nittos or some BFG sticky streets and get them on your car but just don't say anything.
Go outside of town and practice taking off with the least amount of spinning.
Learn how to bounce the front end while pulling to the line to intimidate him,chances are he'll get nervous and slam the gas to the floor and spin like he is on ice and your stickys will sail you to victory lane.
If you win don't give him a second chance that way you'll always be on top and you can talk crap for awhile and **** him off!

 

My wife had a mild built 455 put into her 1970 GTO. It had a turbo 400 trans, and the engine was built by a good shop from the bare block up. It had a 850 cfm double pumper, Edelbrock manifold, and high lift cam. My Z and her 1996 TA are much faster. The car weighed a lot. Fred

Reading along until I got to this post. I agree. If you look at old stock times, those cars are about the same times as ours (sometimes slower or faster). Personally, I would say that if it is restored to bone stock, you will beat him (or it will be a close race).

 

3:73's and street legals and i think you would be good.......make some friends and borrow a 150 shot just in case.........you shouln' tneed it but a plan b is always kinda nice........the guys not gonna hook up with bfg's and all that torque......those stock rims are like 8 wide......your fine

 

if he really keeps upsetting you just pin him on the ground and put your forearm right into his throat,then let him up. repeat if necessary.

 

If its stock you can beat him ....you have less wieght and a far better suspension. Get some drag radials and practice your launch and you can take him. A 50-100 shot would be some good insurance

 

wow, thank you all for all the info. and replys I really appreciate it I was felling perty bummed out at 1st but now I feel a hell of a lot better knowing I got a shot you guys made my day hell probably my whole christmas vacation ! Oh it's originaly a 68' GTO the guy before him put the 1970-72 (was it ??? not sure) Judge 455 in it. Oh it also has an edlebrook intake on it. I like what TIM H said I was thinking the exact same thing to **** him off right before we take off so he'll spin out like crazy. A 455 must have an insane amount of torque even if he has lone tubes on it. And as soon as he gets it running I'm going to tell him let's settle this now!! (before he can get to much practice in ) If I take off my sway bar before the race that will help my car pop up a little more right tim??? I'm definitly going to be practiceing I know of a perfect SAFE place out in the country. Once again thank you guys I'm so excited to shut him the hell up I'll be counting the days.

put a supercharger on you car and say bye bye keep it at a low sane ammount of boost thou
