to test spark unplug coil wire from the Opti and insert screwdriver or test light on to the end u pulled off the Opti. hold screwdriver close to a ground point. not touching. Have someone start car and if u see a blue arc u have spark.

I'd try a coil first. they are like 50-60 bux at the autoparts store. if still no spark the check the harness for a broken wire.

I tested it correctly this time I believe lol. I got no spark. So I thought maybe the wire going from the coil to the opti was bad. I took the wire off and sure enough I got spark coming from the coil. I'm guessing this is still a valid way to test it? The only bad thing is, is that noone in my town sells the wire...figures

u should be able to use any wire to test the coil.

Here is a place that makes the wires that u can put over the valve cover. u can also get them from summit or jegs.

I know that I can buy a whole set, but I was wondering if I could buy just the one wire from the coil to the opti. I found one on summit but it is 25 bucks just for the one wire. Can you think of anywhere I could get one cheaper? I hope this will solve my problem.

Ok I finally got a new coil and plug wires because mine have never been changed. I know the coil is good and that the wire from the coil to opti is good now. Still my car will not start. When I turn the key I can here the fuel pump prime and everything so I assume I should be getting fuel pressure to the rails? I've done all of the testing as mentioned in the "How to properly diagnose a bad opti" sticky. I got no AC voltage while trying to start the car. Yes, I checked it correctly. My DC voltage was 12 volts in the correct terminals. I have everything to change out the opti, but I was hoping it might be something smaller. I guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and change it out?

I changed out everything and still my car won't start. I got a fuel pressure tester and checked for fuel pressure at the schrader valve. I turned the key and heard the fuel pump prime but I got a reading of "0" on the tester. What could be wrong? Oh, and still no spark either. Is this an ignition problem or what?

A few years back, my car wouldn't start. It would turn over till I drained the battery. It was my coil wire. Put a new one on, and it fired right up.

Thats what I was hoping my problem was at first. Could it possibly be the ICM. It is the only part I didn't replace.
