multiple spark ignition(When?)

when is it time for one? I have a cam and ported head, 11.0:1. I am wondering if I get the Accel F-body kit will it accually do anything for me?

It should help some. If nothing else, you should see faster response and cleaner burn. I'd say it's about time for you. I haven't had any experience with Accell as I usually use MSD or Mallory.

You will see no gain unless you change plugs and wires at the same time. That's why many reliable people report a gain - it's the new plugs and wires doing it, not the ignition box.

Thank you.

I got an Accel box for cheap early spring, I bought it and put it on only for the spark based rev limiter really. Noticed no difference the way the car runs.

IMO, multiple spark discharge is a waste on an LT1. This is something that's designed to function as more of a crutch on engines that have low ignition resolution. When you're dealing with a points or HEI style distibutor, you only have 8 possible points in the 360 degrees of crankshaft rotation for it to fire. With an optisparks optical disc, you have 360 possible points out of 360 degrees of crankshaft rotation. Unless your tuner just doesn't know what he's doing, there's not much margin for error there.

He's already got Magnecore wires which are pretty stout.

I agree. I've been running the MSD D6+ on mine for about 7 years. The only thing that MSD does for me is provide a decent rev limiter, I've noticed no other improvement. and for that it wears out the opti faster.

I believe the MSD6a on my 454SS truck does provide a miniscule improvement in mileage and perhaps performance; hardly worth it.

I have yet to see any proof that it hurts the opti, though.

I haven't seen any proof either, but the DynaSpark vendors claim that it shortens the life of an opti. They are in a better postion to know than me.

Of course they claim that, it would be another reason to buy their product, lol.

Just about any electrical device will break down sooner if more current is pushed through it. I beleive the Opti is no exception. However, expereince shows that using a CD ignition amplifier does not cause immediate failures. Somewhere in between no effect and immediate failure is as close as I can say.
