In the 2.5 years since this thread started it has become really clear that the MSD is a step BACWARDS from stock.

Maybe try and salvage the cap and rotor for your old stock base. The MSD cap and rotor seem good it is the base and electronics that are a problem.

Starting your own thread was a better idea. Not a good idea to post the same question multiple times. Since you now have a stand-alone post, I'll delete your duplicate, so you won't get people repeating the same answers multiple times in two different threads.

I have not purchased any MSD, but, have disected alot of opti's (5). I have also purchased a high priced Opti from a shop in Chi-town for $600, and, wasted cash on this product. It did not fit and over hyped. Live and learn. I have had success with gm opti's and Summit opti with rotor rivet and vent system mods. Opti's do not like dirt or corrosion. But, Opti's can be made to work very well. B.

Instead of getting the new MSD Opti, I chose to rebuild my oem unit w/ the MSD rotor and cap. So far (knock on wood), it is working very good. Additional benefit is my oem opti ('94) is now vented w/o the large conversion expenditure of going from an unvented to vented opti. Additionally, I have an additional bolt to hold the unit in place which came w/ the cap and rotor. BTW, the rebuild was not difficult (apparently the directions are much improved from earlier versions), although I did not use the supplied rotor screws.

Just my $.02; hope it helps.

Thanks!
Mike
