MSD opti spark

i just ordered an MSD opti spark to replace my old one that takes a crap wen it gets hot. the MSD has the option to throw timing 5 degres either way and i was wondering if i advanced the timing a little would this cause problems or no? and if no problems occur could i go advance it a full 5 degrees?

Do some reading, it has proven to be LESS reliable than stock.

The timing thing should ONLY be used if you buy a keyed hub and degreed damper and fabricate a timing pointer so you can see what you have actually done to the timing.

The mechanism is somewhat fragile and just blindly turning it back and forth you wont make any gains and will probably break something.

Next time ask the question BEFORE you make the bad purchase.

Also ignition issues only when hot are usually the module not the opti.

It really should be left at zero. The adjustment is there more for people that don't run computers or FI and those that use offset bushings or keys on the cam/crank. You want to use programming to change timing.

Yeah for the price of the MSD opti you could have bought a stocker PLUS the programming to actually tune the motor and tranny.
