The un-vented Opti has a different configuration on the internal metal cover, the optical wheel is spot-welded to the carrier, where in the vented Opti it is screwed on. The electrical connector is a different size/shape.

My 2-yr old opti had as very strong seal that made it exceptionally difficult to get appart even after I had confirmed it was a total loss so I was being quite rough with it. GM makes them a little better than they used to it appears.
